APRIL 24th State EMD Exercise
There is a state disaster drill exercise involving hams on April 24th. Billy Irwin our State ARES Emergency Coordinator joined us by phone and made some preliminary recommendations how we could contact each other on Simplex and make up a piece of traffic to go to the State EOC in Columbia, etc.
Gabe Turner(KK4EEZ) the Comm. manager at EMD Wednesday said more details would be coming out soon so with that we’ll keep up posted. There is an online meeting scheduled for Monday.
Field Day
Field Day June 26, Tommy Walker (NG4S) is taking the lead and we will be looking for a local assistant… At this point Field day is set to be like last year. We have been offered to use of a fire station conference room in West Florence, if we chose. We may operate as a group for several hours and then allow folks to operate from home. We fully leave this in Tommy’s more than capable hands!
Fox Hunt
We will be having our next activity May 22nd using the automated Fox. Thanks to Tommy Walker (NG4S) for selecting one for us . The weather will be better and if not May 29th is the backup day and it will be on automatic and not just manual on demand like the previous foxhunt that was primarily for training.
Hope to have another good time. Bill Cheney (N4AAK) gaves some good advice on off frequency and body shielding to attenuate signals. It works! More on the May Foxhunt later.
